CONTEXT
Dar Al Qaswa is a luxury travel agency that curates bespoke Arabian journeys. Think desert expeditions, heritage voyages, and private cultural experiences across the Middle East. They came to me needing a web presence that speaks to both English and Arabic audiences, and feels intentional in both languages rather than one being a hasty translation of the other.
THE CHALLENGE
The core difficulty was designing for two fundamentally different reading directions (LTR and RTL) without the Arabic side feeling like an afterthought. I wanted the site to feel culturally rooted, not like a generic travel template with a language toggle slapped on. On top of that, it still needed to hit modern performance and SEO standards so the agency could actually be found in both language markets.
APPROACH
I structured the whole thing as a single persuasive landing page with a clear story arc: open with a promise, explain the philosophy, showcase the signature journeys, build credibility, and close with an invitation to connect. Each section is designed to move the visitor from curiosity to trust to action.
Nuxt 3 + i18n with Prefix Strategy
Went with URL-based locale switching (/ar/) instead of cookie-only. Much cleaner for SEO, link sharing, and setting up hreflang alternates.
Art Deco Visual System
Built a small component library (ArtDecoButton, ArtDecoCard, ArtDecoCorner, ArtDecoRule) around a navy, copper, and gold palette. The goal was to evoke Arabian luxury without falling into visual clichés.
CSS-Only Motion
Used IntersectionObserver for scroll reveals and parallax instead of pulling in a heavy animation library. Every animation has a prefers-reduced-motion fallback.
Custom SEO Composable
Wrote a useSeo() composable for explicit control over canonical URLs, hreflang alternates, Open Graph, Twitter cards, and JSON-LD TravelAgency schema. The default meta tags alone weren't enough for bilingual SEO.
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
The biggest lesson was that bilingual architecture works best when you think RTL-first instead of bolting it on later.
- Full RTL layout system where gradients, spacing, and decorative elements all flip correctly using [dir="rtl"] selectors and logical CSS properties
- A three-font typography stack: Playfair Display for headings, Outfit for body text, and Noto Sans Arabic for the Arabic version, each tuned for its context
- Lazy image loading with a blur-up effect using Unsplash URL parameters to generate tiny placeholders
- JSON-LD structured data (TravelAgency, WebSite) paired with hreflang alternates for proper multilingual indexing
- Accessibility-aware motion throughout, so users who prefer reduced motion get instant state changes instead of animations
OUTCOME
The end result is a production-ready marketing site that positions Dar Al Qaswa as a premium brand in both English and Arabic markets. The art-deco design system gives them a distinctive identity that stands apart from commodity travel sites, and the SEO and structured data foundation means they can actually be discovered.
LEARNINGS
- RTL support really needs to be a first-class concern from day one. Retrofitting it later breaks spacing, gradients, and decorative elements in ways that are hard to catch
- Luxury web design is as much about restraint as it is about richness. Every animation, color, and typeface choice either reinforces or undermines the premium feel
- Bilingual SEO goes well beyond translation. Separate URL structures, hreflang tags, and locale-specific structured data are the baseline
- A single well-built landing page with a clear narrative arc tends to convert better than a sprawling multi-page site with scattered information
